Derbyshire Benevolent Trust exists to serve its members to the best of its ability. Within that remit, we are today supporting Victoria Tremayne, a DBT member who is raising funds for her husband Lance currently fighting a long-term illness.
In the summer of 2018, Lance lost the use of his legs during a family holiday. An avid sportsman and ‘hands-on’ dad to three children it transpires that Lance was suffering from a birth defect impacting the main vein returning blood to the heart.
Over the years since the diagnosis was confirmed, doctors have said they have never seen blood clotting to the extent of Lance’s.
A nine-hour surgery resulted in a severe form of post-thrombotic syndrome and extensive nerve damage. Rehab helped to a point, but with COVID-19 and months of sedentary life, progress was lost.
There are a number of support services that can help Lance in his fight, but not available on the NHS. To this, Victoria is fundraising and we at DBT are helping spread the word to our own community.
