One of the key events in the cycling year gets underway just over the Derbyshire border today (2 May) with the start of the 2019 Tour de Yorkshire.
Among the riders this year will be Chris Froome, the four-time Tour de France winner, Olympic medallist Mark Cavendish who has won 30 Tour de France stages and the 2011 UCI Road World Championships, German champion cyclist Marcel Kittel and world champion track and road racing cyclist Lizzie Deignan.
Two former Tour de Yorkshire champions – Greg Van Avermaet and Serge Pauwels – have also confirmed they will ride this year’s race as well as cycling legend Marianne Vos.
The Tour de Yorkshire ends on 5 May and will take in all four corners of the county, passing through 150 villages, towns and cities along the way.
